This link has some information.
http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/creatine.html
Benefits that I've noticed while taking it are that my muscles are bigger and I feel stronger. I gain about 10 lbs in water weight while taking the stuff. When I go off creatine I find that I have to pee a lot and my muscles go back to normal. I've gained a good 30lbs in permanent muscle mass over the years while taking creatine.
Don't take creatine if you have to cut weight. There have been a few news stories of wrestlers on creatine dying after trying to cut weight. -

No. all the weight you immediately loose after stopping the use of creatine is water. I gain 10lbs within the first two weeks of using creatine. When I stop using it, I loose 10 lbs. If you take it then stop, expect to loose the same amount of weight you gained in the first two weeks.

I don't think 16 is too young for the most basic supplements, stuff like whey protein, creatine, and glutamine, although at the same time I think he needs to spend more time researching and actually having a good routine rather than just sticking a bunch of stuff in his body.
