I was going by what you wrote.
"My background includes
kempo/kenpo - black belt
JKD - instructor certification
BJJ - Blue Belt
and a little bit of everything else"
You have stated the traveling with well know instructors thing in other posts.
I still like CLOSE QUATER COMBAT
To follow the SENSEI withthout question is like walking down the train tracks with eyes closed and earplugs....its gonna get you killed.
After reading Jekyll's threads I bring back an old sig.......
Do you really train or just bore people on message boards and parties talking about it.

"I hold "master level" kempo rank, 7th dan."
lol, how long did that take?
"Interesting...I wrote a post for this thread, and it didn't show up. Can they be read and deleted if the "thread-bearer" doesn't like them?"
admin can, but they extremely rarely don't do so
therfore the problem is technology wise...
I can't find that other thread yet.....still searchin. It was somewhere on www.fightauthority.com forums a long time ago.

What style of Kempo...
What lineage of JKD...
What are you borrowing from each system...
Why are you doing it....
I call my system "Use it if it works"...

I really wasn't looking for critisim, that really wasn't the reason I listed my ranks originally. I was doing it mainly just to give kempocos an idea of my experience. I will say that I have received rather rapid advancement in both systems for my age. I'm in my 30's. However, I have been active for 20+ years. My kempo is a Japanese/Okinawan base system. And the JKD is original JKD. The certification comes by way of the World JKD Federation, run my Carter Hargrave, but Tim Tackett and beleive a couple other 1st gens sit on the board. My kempo is not associated with Mr. Hargrave's association however. Anyway, like I said, I'm not really trying to promote myself here. It's not the place.
And, I to like CQC as a name. Pretty simple.

I like CQC as well, it sounds modern and has an offensive 'mindset' and you can always have a handout sheet for your school breaking it down like you did on the board. I don't know if the military uses the phrase, but you can always say this is my interpretation of CQC or your name's CQC.
btw what was the story behind Hargrave's and dill's split. I read on Hargraves' board that dill had threatened him with bodily harm which makes for a really wild story.

Okay, I apologize if you think I'm trying to be critical, I was asking because my friend went through the exact same thing.
Names tend to have to be justified. If you call it close quarter combat and you do other stuff than why is it that you call it close? If it's your brand of JKD, then why not call it JKD?
Some nasty questions that was asked of my friends, if you don't mind a bit of paraphrasing. So under the assumption that you're not going to be interested in the sport aspect itself, what seperates your system from others or is it just you? Who, outside of your little circle of friends, will vouch for you?
What Kind of ranking system will you have...
How will you get promoted....
How far are you willing to stand behind your art..
What makes you want to leave your current arts...
(I swear I'm going to kill my friend, I don't understand why he doesn't just sign up himself.)

Excuse me, sir. Is it too late to sign up for your 'Ass Kicking Class?"

Since it seems what you are planning on teaching is grounded much more strongly in the theories of JKD (as I understand them, keep what works and is efficient, remove what is not) it seems you are taking a more scientific, less artistic approach to self defense. (please note, this is not meant to be a prejuducial language choice)
Perhaps "[insert name here]'s School of Martial Science" might be a good name for the school. Once people come in you can explain the nuances of where the techniques come from.
Just my 2 cents.

...except 'science' refers to real science, i.e. what people do in universities...
Posted On:8/22/2003 2:16pm
why dont just name it as MMA (mix martial art) with a your real name on it.
ex: gracie MMA (kenpo,jkd)
<--sorry for my damn poor english, iam trying to improvise it--> thanks
