Very accurate description. One thing I would add is Master Berlow is an exceptionally gifted teacher. That is the real secret to the sucess of the school. I agree students are often promoted too soon, especially kids.I think that promoting is pushed by the parents, more so then the school. I personally know one mother who really got in Master Berlow's face about her kid promoting. Most of the instructors are good, it depends on what you want from your training. I think if you are training seriously , some teachers are better than others. A class i took recently the woman that taught was a bit obsessive-compulsive about some of the rituals , such as turning your back to the flags to fix belts. Others are great with kids, but not as strong at correcting technque. One thing I personally hate is the training instructors often seem to confuse noise with energy, encouraging the kids to yell obnoxiously to show spirit. The schedule offers a lot of flexibility.

The long breakdown by kwoww was very specific, and pretty accurate about how things work. Keep in mind it's now 2009, UMAC is in thier own building down the road, and things have changed in turn for the best. About the part where kwoww talks about the "good training is their, but its hard to find". The school has evolved to a strong "family oriented" atmosphere, compared to "go kick someones ass" atmosphere. So I agree with kwoww, buts it not as hard to find as you think. If you go in serious about the training, some of the instructors are looking for that, see that, then good training will come to you. Some of the students that are there, are there to keep the school running (paying to go through the motions), then there a small percentage of the true students. When the instructors sees that kind of a student, thats when the you really learn and earn what you should be. So if you go there, go there to train, be patient, and you will get whatever you put into.

im glad you are having a fairly nice experience with UMAC. I went to the warwick NY for a few days, and realized that everything was watered down. you have to pay extra to train with the master, and they pressure you into signing a 3 year contract.
my personal opinion is to stay away from anything with the UMAC name on it, they're definitley a mcdojang!! if you have trained elsewhere, you will know immediatley that they are a joke, and the students are basically buying belts, there is no skill involved..
