Yeah, definitely looks Asian, although I know of no Jew who'd put a swastika on him/herself for ANY reason including it being part of an ultra cool buddhist body painting motive...

I know a jew who would wake his parents up on passover with a bag of bread, eating it as they woke up. Odd little fellow. Always told his parents how stupid Jews were and would do anything against Jewish law cause it was funny.

I wasn't talking about strict religious rules, EVERY Jew I know avoids those... ;-)
Too much religious **** from your parents always makes you want to rebel...
But even though the scriptures consider eating non-kosher food or breaking the shabbath very grave sins unlike being a swastika wearing nazi (no, really, there is no mention of Nazis in the Old testament!), MOST Jews have a stronger antipathy against National Socialism then against religious Judaism...
So while I might frown upon those who refuse to eat (my favourite) seafood based on religious laws, I'll never consider them my arch-enemies like I consider National Socialists and their kind...

So, unless he did something different against Yuki Nakai, like raise his hand right up in the air, I don't see a connection. Also, would appear the Yakuza-style tattoos came later, as he's significantly less tattooed in UFC 1.
Looks more like sloppy kyokushin salute

Gordeau does have the stereotypical neo-nazi look about him. It's not right, but he basically looks like American trailer trash. Kind of our version of Chavs for you Brits.

Hmm - sorry to necro this, but I must have somehow missed the much more dubious salute he does in some other fight. I'm sure I looked at them all, but at 5:11 in this documentary (but 8:15 in the embedded vid: for some reason, counts down rather than up when embedded), definitely does something more overt. Will have to rewatch UFC 1 yet again!

Also, just to try and add something new to the thread, Gordeau appears to be teaching at a place called Kamakura, here (although its in Dutch). Click the links for 'Kader' and 'Uchi-Deshi'.

There is no special visual difference between 'nazi' swastikas and 'hindu' swastikas. The nazis chose the swastika because they wholeheartedly believed, and obsessively extended, a strain of 19th century anthropological and historical thought which believed that:-

    A) ancient central asian, indian and european languages and religions shared a common influence (almost certainly true)

    B) That this common influence consisted of blonde, blue-eyed proto-sturmwaffen studs who all had the blood group A (almost certainly bullshit).

    C) That the closer one is genetically related to the mythical group in b) the fundamentally better person one was, by right of birth (definitely bullshit).

There is no clear 'good' or 'bad' way of drawing a swastika. The nazis just picked a simple geometric symbol with ancient religious connatations that they felt best summarized their bullshit ideology about greatness being passed on in specific bloodlines.

Yeah, the blatant salute he does came from his first fight against Teila Tuli. The gif floating around in this thread is of later in the card when he just sort of bows instead.

On the show 'Deadly Arts' they did a show on savate and their prefight salute is very close to a nazi salute. Though I can understand why people think he is a neo-nazi based on his appearance. Maybe he was giving a white power sign, maybe he was just saluting his style. Who knows...maybe both.

Wait, he's Dutch, Jewish, and has trained in a French martial art? Be pretty tough to be a Nazi with that combination of influences.

The origin is of not much importance when one has a pile of horseshit in his head (=you can be a total asshole regardless of your origin).

    and / or

Some people start hating their origin so much they turn into the biggest hater of it.

Not necessarily speaking of G. Gordeau, I don't know or care about him that much.
