No one has said it yet but honestly you probably don't need to stretch that much. MT high kicks are based largely on form. I am not very flexible and and I can still head kick when I feel like it because I threw so many high round kicks when I was doing MT that I know the form. Its very likely that you aren't pivoting your support foot enough. when your heel is pointing at your target it opens up your hip and lets you kick higher. When its not you need all sorts of flexibility to overcome your bad form.

Thanks for jumping in WhiteShark. I had a suspicion form is more important than flexibility, but I'm not qualified to make that statement.

Perhaps it will better for the OP to film himself throwing a few kicks, post them on youtube and ask for opinions and advise in strikeistan. Not that I'm saying his inquries are welcomed here, but I wonder if this is the most appropriate forum for him.
Read this for flexibility and injury prevention, this, this and this for supplementation, this on grip conditioning, and this on staph. New: On strenght standards, relationships and structural balance. Shoulder problems? Read this.

My crapuous vlog and my blog of training, stuff and crap. NEW: Me, Mrs. Macho and our newborn baby.

New To Weight Training? Get the StrongLifts 5x5 program and Rippetoe's "Starting Strength, 2nd Ed". Wanna build muscle/gain weight? Check this article. My review on Tactical Nutrition here.

The street argument is retarded. BJJ is so much overkill for the street that its ridiculous. Unless you're the idiot that picks a fight with the high school wrestling team, barring knife or gun play, the opponent shouldn't make it past double leg + ground and pound - Osiris

it all matters HOW high is HIGH for you
for a higher kick in a TKD setting, practice splits - LOL but it works.

the trick is if you aren't sweating profusely by the end of your stretching, your not trying hard enough

I strongly recommend ignoring this advice and searching Strikeistan for form tips.

    ^^ What he said.

Health and exercise issues (including stretching) are dealt here.

Striking techniques (including proper form, techniques and tips) are dealt in Strikeistan.

Though it is always difficult to separate one from the other, I strongly suggest people do their best to separate the two.

    Thanks.
