It seems like we may have been premature in judging good ole Rod.

This has been verified by Guy Power Sensei of Nakamura Ryu.
Soke Ted Petit, the current Soke of what Church renamed Nippon Kamishin Ryu, needed support to get recognition as Soke from the International Society of HeadFounders and Headfamily. Guy Power translated and verified all of the documents for him and the ISHH gave him the sokeship.
Being that Church is now confirmed as having been a true and legitimate Soke, his association with Rod Sacharnoski gives Rod a little more weight and is just as much authorized to approve these sokeships as Guy Power, Church and John Williams are.
No one is a legitimate head of a Japanese classical art without recognition from Japan, not some contrived international organization.
Koryu.com does not list this branch of Daito Ryu as being officially recognized by the Japanese honbu.
Sorry, this guy hasn't been confirmed as a "soke" of anything.
Ordinarily I would agree
But what do you do when an American with such credentials as Guy Power, who is also a respected historian decalres that someone is in fact a Soke? As has been done in the case of Albert Church.
Do you consider the person that made that declaration to be a "sell out" and ignore the soke dokey? Or does a respected scholars words carry weight?
Maybe there is a better forum for this quastion.
Looks like there is a bit of an identity crisis, is it Korean or Japanese. There is very little cross cultural acceptance in those days so that is null.
That makes the whole thing pretty suspect and would need to be verified by someone much more up on that stuff than I.
Sure. Ask away at e-budo.
Guy Power is not a koryu authority. He may be a high ranking JSA sensei, but he's not a koryu authority. In fact, Nakamura-ha Toyama Ryu is gendai.
Even the relationship between Rod and Church should be questioned. I have a letter written to the editor of Black Belt magazine from Rod Sacharnoski, that clearly admits that he was not a student of Albert Church. I think they were both involved in some martial art related "schemes", but little else.
