In this case, the safety is in a different location for each type. Remington has the push-button on the trigger guard, Mossberg has a slide switch on the top, right about where the stock meets the metal.

Thanks for the clarification on the differences. The barrel I bought was actually manufactured by Mossberg. Swapping barrels was just about the easiest bit of gunsmithing I've ever done. Removing the magazine plug was a bit trickier, but not too hard. One pleasent surprise with the new barrel is that its parkerized, not blued like in the catalogue description. Bonus! Wife's initial reaction was positive, although she didn't have a lot of time to check it out last night.

Yeah, I swap barrels on my Mossberg all the time, and the Remingtons I've checked out looked to be at least as easy, same with the Winchesters my future brother in law has.

I also took Pauli's advice regarding the magazine extension - don't bother because if its a problem that can't be solved with four rounds of 00 buck, its a problem that I shouldn't be solving with that gun (I changed Pauli's wording a bit). Those kinds of problems are what my M14 is for. :toothy12:
