Esp. with the 20, also, reloading shotgun ammo is relatively cheap and this helps to lessen ammo cost.

A Glock 19 is a nice small weapon. 9mm is bog standard... it is standard because it works well enough and is fairly controllable on the whole.
Call me sexist but I would not recommend a .45 for a woman, especially a nonshooting woman. The Compensated models of the Glock might be good but regular practice might negate the need for it. (or I am just cheap.)

If your wife is REALLY paranoid about weapons, Beretta 81 (presuming they are still regularly available) may be a consideration. It is a scaled down 92, often in 7.62 caliber or 9mm short? Correct me if I'm wrong.
81 is a good call. I was a big Beretta fan but now I a GLOCK nutrider (however I am liking the Springfield XD )

Bottomline WS BUY A FUCKING GLOCK!!!! YOUR HOME, YOUR LIFE, YOUR WIFE IS WORTH IT!!!

I think the XD is excellent. It's typically cheaper than a Glock too, which is nice. The new S&W M&P is worth looking into as well. Anyway, could you keep us updated with your decision?

FWIW, I know quite a few ladies who shoot .45 1911s. One of the best pisol shooters at our club is the lady than runs the pistol matches and she totes a 1911. I think grip size is more of an issue than recoil. A lot of woman have trouble with the wide grips on most 1911 models.

I'm with the shotgun crowd. Get a changeable barrel. Short for home-defense, long for your skeet shooting.
