IFL Battleground - on network television

Caught this last night. I was disappointed that it wasn't live but was a showcase of 8 fights, but is nice to see MMA presented to the masses. Wait...who doesn't have cable or satellite TV these days? Anyway, hopefully a wider audience will mean more money --> more and better fighters.

One of the positives is that it was shown in HD [sort of] as opposed to 480P like the shows on Spike. It was also good to see an alternative to the UFC. The four minute rounds did seem to make the pace much faster.

I also think the team concept will help draw those that are hooked on the idea of their city's team somehow representing them.

Does anybody know if the upcoming events are going to be shown live on network TV? The IFC website really didn't give much information.

Thought it kinda sucked.

Always great to have more MMA on TV, but hated the "Blood!Blood!Blood!" hyping, the use of a fighter being carried out on a stretcher for gazillion pre-commercial teases, and the overall tone of the production. Not, IMO, the best way to present the sport.

My only real take on the IFL is that I loathe the team names. Other than that, it's good for the sport.

Oh, and rings suck too. :(

Doesn't Bas Rutten have his team, the 'Anacondas' on the IFL, or is that some other league?

I remember seeing them sweep another team one night. 4 of the wins by guillotine or something. I'm pretty sure I posted about it somewhere else.

Worst. Names. Ever. It's like they found the most generic middle school football team names in the world. I'm suprised there isn't a 'panthers' or a 'knights'.

Yeah, the names suck. I didn't see this, but it sounds like I'm better off not having done so. I think the IFL has potential, but it has a lot of work ahead of it.

I'll start.

Bas Rutten's team: The Los Angeles "Anacondas" becomes:

The Liver Kicks!

...ok, that's it as far as my suggestions go. At least Ken Shamrock managed to keep some semblance of the Lion's Den with the Nevada "Lions".

Kansas City needs a team.
