Technology and sports science might change, but the psychology of a fighter does not. Excellent post!

Feedback - so MMA actually involves more head injuries than boxing? I would never have thought that.

I was surprised as well. Maybe it's because the gloves are thinner and therefore hurtier.

If I'm interpreting that article correctly, it quantifies MMA matches ending by head impact. It does not necessarily mean MMA carries more head injuries. Remember, in MMA if you go nightie-nightie, that's the end of the fight, whereas in boxing, you are given an 8-count after you go down, to regroup your internal marbles and get up for more head punishment.

A boxing fight that may not end in a KO and go the distance may carry more head trauma than an MMA match that ends with a KO'ing punch to the face.

... head stomping a-la Brazileira, however, that should be something of concern, mid/long term, for somebody on the receiving end of it.

The street argument is retarded. BJJ is so much overkill for the street that its ridiculous. Unless you're the idiot that picks a fight with the high school wrestling team, barring knife or gun play, the opponent shouldn't make it past double leg + ground and pound - Osiris
