FMA Profile and Videos
Hey folks, I'm putting together a highlight video dedicated to the Filipino Martial Arts so post your favorite clips here and I might include them. Dog Brothers stuff is ok too.
Also, Sam B. wrote up a profile on the Filipino Martial Arts, which you can see here:
The most common variations appear to be espada y daga (sword and dagger), single stick, double stick, and single knife. The sticks are typically between twenty and thirty inches long, depending upon the particular art. FMA arts are typically known for their two-man flow drills as versus solitary forms. For example in Remy Presasís Modern Arnis the student are first taught how to execute and defend against twelve angles of attack. Students then alternate executing and defending against these strikes with another single stick as a way to learn these techniques. Similarly students learn Sinawali which is a pattern of strikes using two sticks of equal length.
here's a clip of us practicing the Basics of KILAT SERRADA KALI at Dagupan City, Pangasinan Philippines
Basic Stick vs. Knife
here's basic kid's self-defense with stick and empty hand....just practicing...he's only 12 yrs old.
A friend of mine has a video of us sparring full-contact unbroken rounds with home made padded sticks. Its actually a lot of fun and shows a lot of pratical Arnis. However he recently went to Sarawak as part of a marine biology expedition. I'll see if I can convince the guys to come back in and do a rematch and video it.
My Kajukenbo instructor is so worried about 'privacy' that I can't post any videos or pictures unless it is just me in the picture / video. Or maybe there is a less honorable reason...
We are hoping to get some stuff up on youtube soon in the way of drills and the like. We have some of our 2006 (armoured) competition up.
The heavy weight one is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t2Jn0pp25_k
Again hoping to get more material up soon.
