A Fighter's Heart: One Man's Journey Through the World of Fighting

I was watching tonight's episode of the Daily Show and the guest speaker was Sam Sheridan, author of A Fighter's Heart: One Man's Journey Through the World of Fighting. Apparently he spent some time training in Thailand as well as Brazil, in order to determine what drives today's fighters.

    Amazon link.

Anybody read it yet? Is it any good?

I caught part of that, it sounded like it might be worth reading, but I'll probably wait until it's out in paperback.

I'm currently reading it (about 1/3 of the way through now). So far it's really good and the guy provides a look at several different training camps (he's been to Fairtex, MFS, and now is at Brazilian Top Team in the narrative).

I'm reading it too, though so far I'm only just past his first pro fight (the one with the possible Yakuza Karate champion). It's pretty good.

Saw the interview and have seen the book in bookstores.
Hopefully he was just nervous in the interview, otherwise I doubt the bok is that great.

Yep, definitely a worthwhile read. I think, given the attitude of most bullshido'ers they'd find something in it. I won't do a spoiler on the book but it's a lot of interesting speculation on what motivates people to fight, what fighters get from the experience and to a certain extent an examination on what aspects in some ways make up being a 'man' in today's world. He's into fighting himself (vs. just an observer) and he spends time in Thailand, then with Pat Miletich, a spell in Brazil with BTT, out in Oakland (I think) with a boxing trainer, then wraps it up with some more time with Miletich (on a movie set). Its an interesting travelogue and has a bunch of other little interludes and stories.

    so yes, good. :laughing7
