Sad, very sad. Always loved their shows, always loved their fighters, always loved their rules, but I never got to go to one live.

well, as far as i know, shooto isn't going anywhere, and there's hardly enough money in the shooto events for it to be yakuza related (or if it is, no one cares)

    so we'll still have shooto

but damn, i hope they figure out their problems, cause pride rules over all other orgs in the MMA game.

Shooto is great to watch, but the only way I have ever seen it is on the web. Is there something I'm missing?

some people in japan have been known to record the broadcasts and put them up on bit torrent sites.

the best part about watching shooto is the commentary, so if you have access to a native japanese speaker, or speak it yourself, you can find out about all the **** that they talk about foreign fighters. it isn't usually super racist anymore, but some of the early ones (mid 90s) they said some seriously wrong ****... saying that darker skinned fighters were more likely to break the rules, etc...

The only way I've been able to watch them so far is on youtube, one fight at a time, and not understanding a word they say. Still good though.

i love shooto. Aoki still fights there, he recently just won the belt for his weight class. You'll get to see tons of legends from there, rumina sato, sakurai, etc...

Erik Paulson was a shooto champ. That and Aoki should be reason enough to watch.

funny u bring Paulson's name up. I just started training in CSW last week, and i met the man in vegas this weekend!

but yeah, i'd put shooto and pancrase on the same level as ADCC. It doesnt get the exposure that UFC or Pride does, but man are those shows ever exciting. You'll see the superstars of MMA 'before' they became stars. Guys like Frank Shamrock, Bas Rutten, Paulson, Sakuraba...just to name a few. The REAL pioneers of the sport. Only the true MMA fans will hunt these shows down
    to watch

edit: wrote sakuraba by mistake - he mainly did pro wrestling before jumping right into the big shows.....i was thinking Genki Sudo and Caol Uno while typing sak...weird, musta zoned out a bit while typing

Thats why I was kinda surprised when I heard that there was a public outcry over Yak connections. Its common knowledge in Japan that the Yakuza influence a lot of ****, and they have a particularly well documented history of supporting Japanese professional wrestling, and now MMA.

Not like they don't operate openly, with offices and signs out front that read "Yakuza" (or family name, rather, I think... I dont read Japanese). Either way, its a shame Pride lost their TV deal. I hope some investor sees their potential and buys them to build on what they've got instead of dismantling it.
