Doesn't learning from as many styles as possible mean spending large amounts of time trawling through disasters like kung fu, ninjitsu, aikido, wing chun, systema ect. in the blind hope of finding a technqiue or two that actually works?

For him, "trawling through disasters" means beating those people up; Ryu doesn't waste his time with someone that isn't willing to throwdown with him in a dark alley or busy market place at the drop of the hat sans mouth piece, gloves, and cup. So really, when you think about it, Ryu doesn't put up with that sort of crap, and anyone dumb enough to try t3h deadly wrist lock on him really doesn't monopolize much of his time.

Yeah, Ryu's idea of "learning from other styles" is kicking everyone's ass and learning that they have nothing to teach him. Who needs an eye gouge when you've got hadouken?Ranked #9 internationally at 118lbs by WIKBA http://www.womenkickboxing.com/wikba...rch%202009.htm

If I could throw a hadoken, I think instead of looking for teachers I'd open a school. I think that would actually be a pretty good sign that maybe you have some talent to share."[Fighting for Points] is doubtless very pretty, and invariably draws applause, but preferences should always be given to blows that do some business, to good straight hits that do something toward finishing the fight.
A man who has carefully trained for brilliant tapping play, will find himself considerably out of it in case he is called upon to do any real work."
