I have a hot water bottle and a big bag of frozen peas. I uped my dose of motrin and the swelling has reduced enough to allow noticably more comfort when swallowing. So I am leaning toward a traumatized muscle that just need time to chill out.

Do a search on 'bruised trachea'. If your symptoms are similar, wait two weeks from the date of the injury. If the discomfort still persists, time to see an Ear, Nose and Throat specialist.

Sounds like a muscle strain or stress. I had this after my neck injury at Judo, but it came from the remedy, not the injury. Spinal damage meant I had to keep my head up, all the time (seriously - all day, all night). This stretched my neck and throat muscles, leaving them sore and clicking. They went back to normal after I gave them time to heal (a week or so, two weeks at most).

It'll be two weeks Tuesday but if I see marked improvement between now and then I'll hold off on the doc visit until I get back from my hitch at work. Two weeks of no body tweeking my throat should do the trik I hope.
But here is another concern. Aside from the mental aversion to not want this kind of **** to happen again. Will this cause a physical sensitivity to pressure on my windpipe??? What I mean is will I be more suceptable to a choke now???

I can't imagine it'll do lasting damage (unlike my sorry self), but it'd pay to be careful for a little while. Let your teacher and sparring partners know. Maybe they can hold off on choking you, and just break your arm...

Broken arms heal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have three big medical freakouts
1) Shitloads of blood
2) Blindness, or adversly effected vission of any kind. And I once kicked an optomitrist in the nutz out of shear reaction and fear.
3) Not being able to breath/eat/drink or otherwise do those lil things the life seems to find oh so dear.

Do Tai Chi.
Actually, that might cause blindness...
