    Hell yeah! Hell no!

whats the general consensus about 'budo' dojos?

'budo' dojos is what they call them here.

you know, those places that teach karate, kendo, judo, aikido, iaido, archery, weapons, etc. all rolled into one, and to progress in one art, you must progress in all (gradings encompass all the disciplines).

are they generally full of ****, or are they good traditional training?

a friend of mine just signed up at one. apparently, they are very traditional. i asked what style of karate it was, but he told me he didn't know. i asked if the aikido was trained with resistance and non-compliance, he says his instructor asks for resistance every time they practice a technique.

then i asked if they sparred. he asked the sensei, and she said that the kids always wound up hurt, so they do no-touch "sparring" in karate. i'll have to ask about the judo though.

seems fishy to me. it's not expensive though, at least. in any case, me and my other friends are starting a bit of a fight club, getting together at least twice a month to spar with gloves, mouthguards, and perhaps shin guards.

it's really fun, since one of my friends does some weird style of kung fu (i forget the name), another is a kickboxer, another is a judoka with some kickboxing experience (he pwns all of us if we allow throws tho :p) so i've convinced my friend who signed up for budo to come. the only way he can perfect his fighting skill, is by actually fighting, so i guess this will be good for him.

Where are you abouts? Have you checked out the Throwdown forum?
The place doesn't exactly sound like a winner. Can't do martial arts without contact.

Generally hard to find a real budo place, or otherwise the term budo is used as a marketing tool.

Technically I hold a 2nd Dan Ranking in "Budo"....in reality I seldom lay claim to it as I consider it one step up from bog roll

The street argument is retarded. BJJ is so much overkill for the street that its ridiculous. Unless you're the idiot that picks a fight with the high school wrestling team, barring knife or gun play, the opponent shouldn't make it past double leg + ground and pound - Osiris
