    Hell yeah! Hell no!

Exercise I can do while injured

Thanks to a damn good throw at a recent Judo comp I'm currently sidelined with a Shoulder injury. I'd like to do something to keep my fitness up and not turn into a fat bastard and I really like swimming.

What are your thoughts on this? Would it be a good thing to do? Too intensive on my shoulder?

FYI: I'm seeing the doc tomorrow and getting referred to a specialist so I'll know what I've actually done then. It doesn't feel serious but it hurts enough when rolling for me to know I shouldn't be training. The pain I get is mostly if I try and stretch my arm across my body (pain is also felt down the side of my neck) and if I stretch my arm over my shoulder and down my back.

I'm not looking for a diagnosis, just whether you think swimming will be ok this weekend until I get to see the physio.

I haven't trained in the Martial Arts for long, but I played a crap-ton of tennis and golf, so I've had plenty of shoulder injuries. Only disclaimer: your injury may not be the same kind of thing; sounds like yours was an acute injury caused by an impact, while most of my shoulder injuries have been the eventual result of overuse.

Still, swimming always worked for me. It's hard work, but it's zero impact and great for endurance. If you do anything, swim.

    Edited for god-awful grammar.

It was indeed caused by impact. Thanks for your thoughts, I'll just give it a try and see how it feels.

I'd give it a shot. Watch for pain and you should be fine.

well the weekend came and went... how did it turn out?

I was going to suggest if you swim to use a kick board for laps or put on a vest/bouybelt and do laps using just your legs in differnt type styles of kicking like scissor, dolphin, or running.

Cycling, depending on how bad your shoulder is.

Brisk walking, power walking and that is alright for maintaining your fitness. Also if you swim side stroke you should be ok. Just check with a doctor that your shoulder can handle the strain of it.

I'm not a fan of cycling and I don't have a Bike so maybe not :)

I'm going out for a jog now to see how that feels.

you can aggrevate the shoulder further if you run. Try doing kick board laps if possible and if you dont like that run around in the shallows at least waist high.
