It is basically Iron Palm, Bone etc training to its fullest. You basically are impervious to any strike to any point of the body.

Think Toad in The Five Deadly Venoms.

The Combat Ki guy is probably the best video description of Golden Bell.

As well as medicine ball conditioning helps boxers. It helps you get used to taking harder and harder blows.

Also, there are supposed to be different liniments used.

Is it a bath type thing or a rub down deal during the exercise? Throughout the day?

    Are there "internal" benefits?

I don't think the combat ki guys ever claimed to train golden bell, I've never seen liniments or heard them talk about herbs.

I'm coming at this from the preconceived notion that it's just something some dude made up after watching kung fu movies (probably 5 deadly venoms).

In legends it was a bath and such in liniments.

Some of the exercises are supposed to be qigong type breathing patterns. So maybe.

No. That is what it is supposed to do. Should've been clearer.

Thus my love hate relationship with KF movies.

To this day I know in my neck of the woods these movies changed KF for the worse.

I've heard of golden bell as an "external" qigong practice with the benefit of developing "shielding". (Internal / external again. Aiya!)

I wonder if anyone can demonstrate it. We can get 2 guys to beat on somebody with clubs, and if his golden bell works, we'll know the truth, no matter "how" it works.

I volunteer myself to do the clubbing. I nominate Omega as my counterpart in stick.

If memory serves, there was a guy studying under some Shaolin monk in the States (New York?) who told stories about things like that. The Shaolin Kung Fu guys there would be the ones to ask for proof (I'll be holding my breath -- it's part of my qigong training).

I remember reading about it. Its supposed to be like Iron Shirt but protects the head, including the eyes. If I remember correctly. I read it in a chi kung book that I didn't care much for.

I haven't seen or felt Golden Bell but it rates up there with stopping bullets in a similar manner. I'll believe it when I see it.
