    Judo.

Widespread, cheap, fun, effective, traditional, typically high standards of teaching, what more do you want?

Thanks for the replys. I have been searching for schools around me, but have been coming to no avail, many are way too linear karate type places, of course theres your crap TKD schools, I thought I found a Kyo place, but it closed down. Their is a judo place near me, but I don't like the school. I live in New York, there aren't really any good schools in my area, I'm gonna start looking at schools in the city and in new jersey.
I enjoy muy thai and it is the base of my stand up fighting. I have dabbled in BJJ and I recently started training in BJJ a little bit once a week now and my friend has been training in BJJ for a while, so he can help me out in that department.

I'm thinking maybe find a muy thai gym, train for a good 6-12 months and keep looking for something that really attracts me. I've been considering kyoshin, just need to find a good place.
Once again thanks I am open to all suggestions.

There are lots of New Yorkers on this board, they know where good schools are.

NY is kind of a big place Chris. Where are you? On Long Island, Upstate in Bumblefuck, NYC? Lots of good schools in NY but we need to know where you are close to. Can't see you coming from Albany to take lessons at Matt Serra's school.

I'll just quickly second or third the reccommendation of Judo and then vanish into the shadows.
"[Fighting for Points] is doubtless very pretty, and invariably draws applause, but preferences should always be given to blows that do some business, to good straight hits that do something toward finishing the fight.
A man who has carefully trained for brilliant tapping play, will find himself considerably out of it in case he is called upon to do any real work."
