    weirdest training

    today i had a chat with my ex san shou coach and he gave me a training plan

    1.jogging for 30minutes then jump roping for 15minutes
    2.a hammer hitting a tire from back to front 25/each arm
    3.horse stance with gf standing on your quads 5x3minutes
    4.tying a chest developer to a place and hold the other side punch slowly 25/each arm
    5.putting 10lb/leg ankle weights and kicking slowly with them 25/each leg
    6.5rounds of 3minutes of pad, mitts, and bagwork

    has anyone tried something similar, anyone interested in doing this training too so i dont have to feel so lonely(i dont have a choice but to do this training unless i am 100% sure i can beat everyone in the san shou tournament because if my coach found out i lose and did not follow his "great" ideas he will kill me:qright7:)

    Tell your coach that you can just go to a gym in this century.

    1. You need to work on sprinting/jogging timed to match up to your san shou rounds and breaks
    2. Fine
    3. A waste of time when you could be squatting
    4. Is that because you'll be punching in slow motion during the tournament? If not, you may want to work on chest exercises that involve moving the weight as quickly as possible.
    5. Do you have to have bad knees to be a real san shou man?

    I read about that training a while ago, and it looks really cool. I'm trying it as soon as it goes above 10 degrees here. With this and everything else, as Repulsive 100% correctly said, you'll want to tinker with the timing and rests to match your competition. This is a good link for the hammer stuff:

    A horse stance is not really training. It's resting. And it's hard for someone to stand there on your quads, they'd need something to hold on to, unless your girlfriend is a monkey. Just adding this weight is not a really effective use of time as RM has indicated. You are better off doing squats (20 rep squats). However, squats do not work the legs the same way stances do. One is not a substitute for the other. Stances strengthen and harden your legs. A full routine of stances are a fantastic conditioning exercise.

    Here's what I would do- I'd call up Cung Lee's school, EBM in Oakland, and a couple of others, hell I'd call Jason Yee and see what they think. I'd also look at some of the Tapes Cung Lee offers. Sanda is not that different from Muay Thai, and this sounds nothing like Muay Thai training. No offense, because I like good form and stances when I watch Wu Shu etc, but I don't see how spending all that time in a static horse is going to help you in a match. You're going to need to explode. I'd go down to the local Junior College and see if they'll let you work with the wrestling team. That's what the guy that runs EBM did, and he won a lot of matches.

    your coach has watched **** like kickboxer way too many times dude. those are some asstastic exercises that mght have been used, say, 80 years ago, except for 6 and 2. time for your coach to play catch up.

    That's one weird mix of traditional and contemporary training. I agree with the other posters as to what you need to drop from this mix.

    My sifu used to have us do all these 'great' exercises that looked like he had stumbled upon a copy of Exercises That Will **** You Up for Dummies. "Don't worry, you break something, I fix" he'd say. Yeah, well howzabout we just don't break it in the first place?

    Do 1, 2 and 6. Let your opponent do 3, 4 and 5.

    ok i guess i am replacing horse stance with weighted squats and burpees, replacing punching thingy with weighted push ups and pull ups, as for kicking i cant kick with right leg due to shin injury so i will just change the topic and replace with some judo throws
