ACtually knocked someone out with one of these back in my krotty days.

Cant really take credit tho, it was an accident, we were just light sparring and I kinda clocked him in the head with the second kick and he just dropped

I would find a different school if it weren't for rural Pennsylvania's distinct lack thereof. My technique, power and control over things like roundhouse kicks etc. has increased greatly. I just need to filter all of the crap out I suppose.

I guess doing something is better than doing nothing, though possibly if this school sucks as bad as it sounds it could be worse for your overall technique. It could be that doing this for a while will add some benefits to your game if you ever get the chance to change over to a good kickboxing (muay thai, sanda, kyokushin etc.) school, though it's also possible you'll just pick up a lot of bad habits (I've encountered a lot of people who learned really good kicking accuracy and agility from TKD, but also a lot of people who had to unlearn their reverse punches and snap kicks from Karate).

Surely the argument of "are double kicks any good" is the argument "are kicks any good"?

If we can agree that kicks are useful - then we can agree double kicks are, surely? All a double kick does is set you up for a nice kick. It can be done with minimal force ala points/light contact, or more force for Heavier contact fights. They can be used to get in someways way, move their guard, or set them up for all sorts of things. Think of it like jabbing with your foot.

Didn't Bill Wallace do double kicks all the time? Including in FC matches?

No, not all kicks are useful. 540 kicks, jump spinning roundhouse, flying sidekick, etc... all suck.

Double kick is an important part of WTF TKD sparring. However, having both feet off the ground is an invitation for the other guy to punch you in the chest and knock you on your butt, which is pretty much the only way to score off a punch.

It's hard to put a lot of power in both kicks, though. You might surprise someone with it if they're not expecting a follow-up kick, I guess.
