Then they'll learn quicker than other strikers.

Punching someone in the face is more natural than using an oma palata to go from gaurd and take someones back. Therefore striking (decent punching) is easier to learn - easier meaning quicker, than grappling.

Now having said that it seems harder for an elite grappler to become an elite striker, than it is for an elite striker to become an elite grappler.

I think part of the reason is that things like twitchy reflexs and someones chin is just something you're either born with or not. And while grappling requires more time to learn it is less dependant on certain atheltic gifts than striking is.

To paraphrase, an elite grappler with a suspect chin, will never be an elite striker, but an elite striker (who by the definition would have a supperior chin) with time, effort and dedication can become an elite grappler.

I can never remember the guys name but he got beat early on in MMA history and he was a gold medalist wrestler.

Basically couldn't take a punch to the jaw.

The other "example" was the Matt Hamil kid on TUF who was puking after being rocked in practice, but I don't know if that was a 1 time thing or he has a weak chin.

Cro Cop is a good example of a striker who has developed into an exceptional grappler, although his grappling is to support his striking.

    GSP is exceptional at everything

Matt Hughes isn't an elite striker (although I am not saying he has a weak chin) and was exposed by GSP.

The street argument is retarded. BJJ is so much overkill for the street that its ridiculous. Unless you're the idiot that picks a fight with the high school wrestling team, barring knife or gun play, the opponent shouldn't make it past double leg + ground and pound - Osiris
