Obviously it depends on the teacher, and the level of contact trained in at any particular school. I would say that we receive the most complaints about non-alive training in the following arts in no particular order.

    1) Aikido
    2) TKD
    3) Krav Mega (The schools which treat it as a cardio class)
    4) Ninjitsu
    5) Various forms of classical Japanese jitsu that do not train in a competitive manner, like Judo does.
    6) Certain Kempo Schools

We would also say that training method matters more then style. So you can have very sucky point sparing karate, and totally different Kyokushinkai training hall in the same town.

Sam, you forgot _ing _un (Wing Chun, Ving Tsun, etc...) and most other styles of Kung Fu.

I was supressing some of my memories. Yes, if your form of kung fu expects you to fight like a dragon or insect, you are probably not taking a practical martial art.

But it must be noted that all of the things on the list can be taught and used well, if you're lucky. I mean, Aikido and Judo and TKD and JJJ and Ke?po can all be good martial arts, but a lot of the time they aren't.

Except Ninjutsu. It's dumb in both concept and practice.

You're going to have to explain the Judo thing in more detail. Why do you say that?

BJJ might make you a better ground fighter, but Judo will make you a better dancer. Join us... or die
