Don't you think you're sort of adding to the mystification of CMA by giving it names like that ?
If it's really meant to be westernised, how about just calling it the 'in fighting' part of your curriculum or something like that ?

First of all I use the term lightning because it sounds cooler that hit fast, break down techniques. Second, Lightning doesn't represent infightin range.

Sheeesh get with the curriculum. I like using the cool names I learned from my traditional background like 'Proud emperor holds up sun' or 'Generous monk' or 'young monk in river', except I made the names shorter.

I mean last week I had two of my instructors come up to me "do you call this a horse stance or a sitting stance'

    "both"

    "what do you mean both?"

"original name of the stance was called 'sitting on horse'"

"So what do you want to call it?"

    "Does it matter"

    "less confusing"

"Fine call it the toilet seat"

All this stuff reminds me of the Avatar cartoon-

    Fire/Lightening-No. Shao Lin
Earth-Hung Gar/So Preying mantis for one character
    Water-Tai Chi
    Air- Pa Kua

My kid see's some one do northern shaolin in a Jet Li movie and says "that looks like fire bending"

The movement of the Earth character is actually my Kung-fu Uncle. Nice guy though he thinks it's funny that his movement was given to a girl.

Is that the Toph character? It said in the Bio that it was southern Preying Mantis.

Pretty cool. This is off topic, but what is your view or impression of Won Hop Kuen Do and Al Dacascos? My son has an interest in Northern Shao Lin (he's 6) while I think it is a little Wu Shu'y, and i wondered if this system would be a bridge to something practical. If it was my choice, I'd have hmi do judo/BJJ.

NewBJJ: Won Ho Kuen Do is actually not a bad beginner art. Comes from Kajukenbo I believe and hear nothing but good things from it.
