    Best moment of the night:

Mike Goldberg: "Travis Lutter is like the Michael Jordan of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu."

Joe Rogan: *Snort* "No, he's not."

    Mike Goldberg: "Kobe?"

Joe Rogan: "No. *Awkward pause.* "Maybe Larry Byrd."

bah, I missed that one. Too many fucking people talking about things NOT pertaining to the fight where I was at. I love the commentary from start to finish because of a) Goldberg talking out of his ass and b) Calling stuff before Rogan does because I am freaking awesome.

Seriously, what is Lutter? Like 0-2 at Abu Dhabi? I'm not saying he's not a great fighter, but he really isn't even a blip on the radar in the BJJ world. Promoters have to talk about something, though.

It's worth trying to find the fight just for that. I kind of condensed it. It was actually worse.

    Here's the fight:

The comment must have been somewhere else in the PPV. It's not in the fight. I seem to recall it's a fight that Couture's not guest commentating for. Could be one of the space filler moments.

In all fairness, he's probably the third best pure submisison grappler at 185.

And the two guys better than him (Lister and Terrel) haven't exactly set the world on fire either.

(Lindland tapped him, yes, but Lindland is a better MMA grappler, not necessarily a pure grappler. Although he may be that too at this point. Basically Lindland 0wnz, is what I'm saying.)

You are right, noone used the words sub par. But I have over the last few days, in this thread and a few other both here and in mmaplanet, debated with people who said Lutter was going to win because of his ju jitsu skills. In these debates my angle was that he was going to win with his striking skills. He is, after all a Muay Thai fighter with BJJ training. I just found it awesome that it was a triangle that put him away. Perhaps inferior would have been a better choice of words to sub par. Either way, it was an awesome fight and the Spider is going to hold on to that belt for a little while.

Third best pure submission grappler in MMA or in BJJ/grappling tournaments? That's what I'm trying to get at. Mike Goldberg called him a "Michael Jordan" of BJJ Black Belts. I took that to mean in BJJ-land, not just in MMA.

Again, I'm not knocking him as an MMA fighter. He's great in that arena. I just took umbrage at Mike Goldberg's hyperbole.
