If you consult the source page--Dr. Seuss Went to War--you will see that appeasement was a major topic before both America and Britain entered the war. Obviously, it became a bigger topic after Britain was brought in up to just before Japan attacked the United States. Memories of WWI held along with the almost scriptural authority given to Washington's warning to keep out of foreign conflict.

Oh believe me, I did not take it as an insult. For those of us--most of us--who grew up on Dr. Seuss, it is probably a surprise to find out how politically active he was. I first learned of it in a 60 Minutes interview back when I was just a wee spud. Fascinating. I had the opportunity to see a small show of his political work.
