Watch this clip enough times, and I could see how someone could make that mistake. I thought he was crap since Under seige came out in 1992, but that's just me.

I had a similar opinion more like I believed that all martial arts could be used effectively in a real fight. Now I know that all martial arts can be used in a real fight, but results may vary.

seagal's "combat aikido" choreography is responsible for at least one person i know studying aikido.

after a month or two of judo, i threw this person down and choked him.

... he's just like steven seagal, all right.

After taking about a month of aikido (Largely because it looked "so cool" when Steven Segal did it) I was wrestling with my brother (a brown belt in judo) and he completely kicked the **** out of me. I asked my instructor how some of these techniques we were learning applied to fights and he said, "Don't think of aikido as self-defense till you get better at it, think of it as a way of life." I quit aikido right after that.

Lets see, as for stupid things I believed for a little while:
Ninjas learned mystical powers and could vanish.

Karate punching was much more powerful than boxing punching.

Anyone who knew karate could kick anyone elses ass.

I actually have my Dad to thank for giving me a reality check on most of this stuff. He and my brother did judo forever, I was too young when they started so I unfortunatly never did. He also told me a story about some guy he witnessed bragging about being a black belt and running his mouth. Another guy challenged him to a fight. At first the karate guy game him the "I'm too d34dly to fight you" crap and finally he accepted the match. The challenger closed on the karate guy and grabbed his head/hair and repeatedly punched him in the face.

I used to beleive that asians could pass down knowledge of martial arts to their children through their DNA alone.
