Style: BJJ--
I remember reading that Hatsumi from the Bujinkan could fall an opponent in demonstrations with a mystical stare. I believed it.
I remember when I first started TKD I asked one of the black belts what he thought of Royce Gracie, because I thought he was awesome. He told me that he thought that he wasn't that impressive. I asked him what he thought about thier claim that 90 percent of fights go to the ground. He stated that a real martial artist trains so that the fight never goes to the ground. From there I spent 2 1/2 years in TKD wasting my time when I started out training with the right mindset all along. My mindset got worse as time went on and I finally started watching MMA again after I quit TKD.
I used to argue with my friend whether Steven Seagal or Jet Li would win in a fight.
I believed that my TKD grandmaster could beat just about anybody.
I belived that the Rocky movies were an accurate depiction of boxing technique, therefore boxing has no technique.
The movements in forms and kata would come out in sparring or a real fight even without my knowing thier application.
That wrestling wasn't useful in a real fight. Yes, even when I wrestled I believed this.
That Steven Hayes vs Steven Seagal would be a good match.
That "Dragon" The Bruce Lee Story" was an accurate depiction of Bruce Lee's life. Also that the fight scenes were realistic.
That nobody past or present could have beaten Bruce Lee. Except for maybe Hatsumi or Steven Seagal.
That Shaolin monks were among the toughest fighters on earth and had mystical powers of chi and levitation.
That all the best fighters came from Japan.
That Morihei Ueshiba could dodge bullets and teleport.
That the way they talked about ki in DragonBallZ was really an accurate depiction of how energy works and how some martial artists could fly and do no-touch knockouts. And that one day we would be at thier level of projecting energy, we just don't understand it well enough yet.
That Steven Seagal could beat Chuck Norris in a fight. -
