THIS IS IN NO WAY AN ANTI RUTTEN THREAD
Anyways, I was reading up on Rutten's history, and it seems that Rutten's first martial arts were Tae Kwon Do and kyokushin Karate- but the thing that makes me wonder is the time it took to for him to get a black belt in these two arts- 1 year.
1 year and your a black belt. Doesnt this smell like those one of those typical TKD McDojos? Bas Rutten went on to learn Muay Thai and ground fighting, but it makes me wonder if this world class fighter started his martial arts training in a McDojo. Makes you think...

Hey! Rutten is probably my fav fighter ever- I'm not trying to imply anything negative or anything... it just makes you think though, I wonder how much of that stuff he ever used?

I think that this is rather accepted knowledge. Bas I believe usually speaks a bit highly of his Kyokushin past, but tends to only mention other training in passing.

he was born with the fighters spirit. it only took 1 year of tkd and karate with classes twice a week, gaining a new rank every month.

Bas Rutten quote
Bas: in Jujitsu you can't just buy a black belt like in say TKD
Stephen Quadros: Do you have any black belts Bas?
Bas: I have a black belt in TKD
