Sounds like how I used to teach my students. Doesn't change the fact that _ing _un sucks my balls - that's right, the ones I haven't washed for a month. And I cycle to work every day and grapple in my spare time.

Let's all give a big pat on the back to self-hating chunners.

The street argument is retarded. BJJ is so much overkill for the street that its ridiculous. Unless you're the idiot that picks a fight with the high school wrestling team, barring knife or gun play, the opponent shouldn't make it past double leg + ground and pound - Osiris

How to decode any "wing chun with aliveness" discussion:

"We understand the need for pressure testing"
    means:
"We understand the need to throw out 95% of the system"

"We cross-train to fill some of the gaps in the system"
    means:
"We give the chun credibilty by using boxing and wrestling, and calling it Wing Chun"

"We treat Wing Chun drills as training in concepts and principles, not techniques"
    means:
"We know that **** doesn't work, but we need a justification to keep training it"

"Our club has always understood the need for sparring"
    means:
"We finish off with twenty minutes of mediocre kickboxing"

"I use several techniqes from wing chun in sparring"
    means:
"I can get away with the odd gimmick becuase my parters all learnt the same sucky defences I did"

    As a bonus:

"We use progressive resistance in our school"
    means:
"We started tensing our arms up during slap-hand drills. Ten months later, we're still doing it"

    "We use the "I" method"
    means:
"First we introduce the technique, ten months later, we're still introducing the technique. It takes ten years to spar with real Chun"

"Sifu X is a brown belt in BJJ"
    means
"The magic of that style's aliveness will transfer to his chun, and then from his chun to my chun. Nobody that trains in BJJ would do a silly secondary art"

"We do just enough groundwork to get back up and keep fighting"
    means:
    "T3h cr4pp3l"
