    if you're trying to get your abs 'cut', then Having low bodyfat is more important than getting lots of muscle. (if you are speaking of being asthetically pleasing) A really skinny person with moderate amounts of abdominal muscle will have "six pack abs' before someone with high-mass, powerful abs with higher body fat. But, if you are just looking for performance, than, why would you try to get to that point anyway? You can have 'up to par' abs even if they don't look especially raw.

    Google Janda sit up. It's a favorite of Pavel Tsatsouline, and if POWERFUL abs are what you're after (not large or distending - for that have a saline bag implanted behind your abdominal wall) the Janda will get you there, and quickly.
