No I am not. I would move for the girl in your avatar, though.
We do have guidlines, they are just tucked in kind of an odd place

Just for the record, before someone asks, this thread is NOT directed at anthony. The school he trains at is pretty much tip-top and deserves its ratings. ATT's main school is actually a damn good example of what you need to give yourself a 10. In fact, if you haven't read his review of ATT's huge, state of the art facility or looked at ATT's website, you should do so now. Ladies and gentleman and knightmare, that is a ten.
Note the things that take this school 'above and beyond' - the boxing coach is a gold medalist. There are multiple BJJ blackbelts, multiple household name fighters, a dedicated weight room, sports medicine facilities, a conditioning coach. Tons of great equpiment, perfect mats and competition areas to train in, etc.
Kempo: I would say a Matt Serra and a stable of what ...4 other BJJ blackbelts? Is pretty top notch grappling instruction. Your review doesn't talk much about the phyisical layout of the place, but those are the things we have pretty much the best guidelines on, it's pretty easy to say, "well, if the school is x, it gets a _"Last edited by JohnnyCache; 10/07/2007 1:36am at .

Well Johnny, thanks for this thread. I just updated my review in accordance to the guidelines that I didnt know existed. My judgement on equipment and aliveness was off. But yeah I still give it a 10 on atmosphere and grappling instruction because I refuse to get off this wonderful nutriding experience :)

Well, I've never been there, but Serra seemed like a guy I would get along with and so do you so I'd probably go with that...and like I say, I don't think the high score in grappling instruction can be messed with.

fair enough i might rehash some parts of my scoring for the size and equipment ratings. no door on our shower >_<
i see that almost everyone gives their striking and/or grappling instruction a 10, there needs to be some kind of qualification for it cos you wouldnt be training somewhere if you didnt think it was the best, whereas if it failed to meet certain criteria its not really an option. (maybe 10 could be has students who are at a top level in their respective sport- not just some guy who lost in an undercard k-1 event in nowheresville europe)
of course that makes it kinda difficult to judge things like kung fu... but they all suck anyway :DNick says:

Nah, I completely agree with perhaps having top level fighters in their respective sports as a barometer of worth. If your style doesn't have any form of competition it can enter into then it's most likely crap anyway. But then again, I'm biased. My school still gets a 10 on grappling instruction *rides away on his nut*
