Randy said he's on a 4 fight deal, fighting twice a year.

(taken from his interview on Beatdown from Sherdog)

Based on his comments in this interview, I would conclude randy is basing his ability to beat sylvia on several factors:

    1. Sylvia's lack of heart. Based on the 3rd arlovski and the monson fight, Couture thinks Sylvia does not have the same desire to win and is content to coast.

    2. Couture believes Sylvia has gotten very good at dealing with shooting-in style takedowns such a single and double legs, as shown in his ability to deal with monson's takedown attempts. Naturally Couture's strength lies in the clinch and he believes Sylvia is not as strong as Randy in this area.

    3. Couture has vastly improved his bottom game since he was getting beaten by heavyweights in 2002. He believes he has the tools to deal with being on the bottom against bigger guys and in the unlikely event this happens with Sylvia he thinks he will be able to deal with him.

The reach difference is going to make it very hard for Randy to get the clinch.

I definitely agree with your post Draven, I think that could be a big issue.

On another note, I think that Sylvia is honestly a very solid fighter. When he really wants a victory or definite win he is agressive, skilled, and has very solid conditioning. I just wonder if he will be able to handle somebody like Randy who will really want to push the fight the whole five rounds, if it goes that far. It seems like Sylvia has been so content to just dance around and win on points since he beat Arlovsky. Maybe Randy will shock him out of that. Dear Lord Sylvia's past few fights have been boring.

Sylvia only throwing jabs and punching like a bitch will make it easy for Randy not to care about that when moving in for a clinch.

Yes, but don't you think he's likely to make millions off of these fights? With sponsorships, possibly the biggest slice of the PPV any fighter has ever gotten and his purse, I would not be surprised if he walked away with at least 5 million$ from all of these. Of course, it's probably a combination of the two. Sadly I think we'll see him go the way of Ken Shamrock, minus the trash talking. I can definitly see why he'd feel it was his right to do this though.. I mean, he was one of the guys who made the UFC what it is today, back when he'd make a few thousand per fight, and now seeing fighters make millions.
I pointed at him [the panhandler], bringing my rear hand up in a subtle approximation of the double Wu Sau guard that is the default hand position in Wing Chun Kung Fu.

    "Step away," I hissed.

Randy's doing this because for glory, not cash. He knows that he'll be a hero if he beats Tim, probably the most hated UFC champion since...well, probably ever.

Sylvia will just jab and cross him the whole fight until he finally knocks Randy out. His height is just too much of an advantage for Randy to overcome. Randy would have to put on about 30 - 40 pounds to have a chance, and that would slow him down. No way he wins, just gets a good whoopin and a good payday.
