I would like to take no-contact BJJ.
Or, if it is not available . . . _ing _ung. . . .

P.S. I have known some who have. Most basically adapt. For example, I have met at least three people who started studying Aikido with resistance and adding in "atemi" as in strikes. One was toss out of his Aikido group for doing this on the weekends!
Some have done Tai Chi and the like for flexibility and relaxation--PERIOD. They do not consider them "fighting" exercises.

Thank you bornsceptic, I've read that thread and it actually was the one that inspired me to start this thread.
What I'm most interested in hearing about is if anyone has switched to a low contact style not because they are forced to, but because they felt the new style was better.
For example: Someone studies Muay Thai for a year and then discovers Wing Chun, quits MT and devotes training in WC principles because the person feels WC is superior to MT.
Is there anyone who has gone that route which is the opposite of what many on Bullshido have gone through?Last edited by Motor; 1/08/2007 9:52pm at .

I haven't, but this gives me an idea for something to do since I re-cracked my rib! I'll take up aikido and flower-arranging... I hear there's a lot of carryover. ;) (just kidding aikido people, please don't passive-aggressive me to death)
"[Fighting for Points] is doubtless very pretty, and invariably draws applause, but preferences should always be given to blows that do some business, to good straight hits that do something toward finishing the fight.
A man who has carefully trained for brilliant tapping play, will find himself considerably out of it in case he is called upon to do any real work."

I have not heard of anyone going from a full to realistic contact martial art to a compliant art who then claimed that the complaint art is better. There is that guy the ninjers cite who joined the BJK, but I do not know if he has declared BJK as "better" than what he studied previously.

Anyone switch from a full to light/no contact MA?
