No it doesn't. The rules are there to govern THAT sport. No modification is really needed.

But wouldn't it be cool to go straight from the clinch, to something like osotogari, straight into side mount?

From what I've seen Judo has nearly all the techs that BJJ has anyways. And yeah, what asia said.

There are two main category of judo rules, I think. One is for safety, the other is to prevent stalling. Then, of course, there are small but nonetheless important one such as restriction on ground work.

The one for safety is fine. The rules against stalling is the problem. Some of them are really ridiculous. For example, you could be penalised for blocking the grip and subseqnelty loose your match if opponent manage to stall without being cautht.

It all started when judo introduced point system of kouka and yuuko which made point scoring and stalling effective tactics which pretty much ruin the sports as art if not as competition.

Because players (from olympic to high school) are keep inventing new way to exploit the advantage of stalling, as years goes by the rules become more and more complex. You introduce one rule, then someone do something to get around or exploit it which everyone eventually copy which in turn cause introduction of new rule(s), and process start over....

I once had a chat with 8 th dan and he think there is a way to solve this. Basically change the rules as to follow.

10 min match. Only Ippon (K.O throw) and Wazaari (Half K.O. throw) count. And next one is important bit. If neither side get ippon at the end, both loose.

Sure, Judo is great from the clinch.
