The more you sweat in peacetime, the less you bleed in wartime.

Fucking overly litigious society. Anytime bureaucracy gets in the way of common sense, a politician or a lawyer should get his ass kicked.
Shut the hell up and train.

If it makes you feel any better, they did that **** for like 6 months 5 years ago, and then stopped it. Definitely not in there when I went through. At least at Army and Marine Basic/Boot Camp. Not sure about the *other* branches.

Admittedly, my basic was easy, but that's because I'd resigned myself to putting up with dumb **** for 9 weeks. Plus my baymates were really squared away, ensuring that we usually got at least a solid 7 hours of sleep every night. Being well rested makes it a lot easier to put up with Drill Sergeants.

7 hours of sleep? Holy ****... what did you do in the service again? I wish I had that much back then! Damn you.

Last year we had a Warrant Officer die at the Combatives school at Ft. Benning. I and others were worried that it might get the program closed down but smarter heads prevailed. The agreement was reached that it was a tragic accident and all precautions were taken (headgear, mouthpiece, gloves, etc) and the fact that we are soldiers training for war means that **** is going to happen.

Knee jerk reaction. Sadly this is the norm not the exception. The fact of the matter is that the department is so worried about getting sued that they will implement these changes is horrible. That's what it all boils down to anyway, money. Accidents happen all the time and if the young man did die in training that is heart breaking. Just goes to show you that the lives of those men and women on the street is worth less than the potential loss of money they may endure from having quality officers in the field.
