Shaolin Wahnam promo video.

The UK side of the Shaolin Kung-Fu organisation, the Shaolin Wahnam Institute wanted a stylish, movie trailer style video to promote their practice of both Kung Fu, and Chi-Kung.

The concept of the video was to put forward the question as to whether this graceful martial art could actually be used for fighting.

At 1 minute 15 seconds, the video asks Can it be used effectively for fighting? And then follows some demonstrations of real fighting.

Does any of this stuff look like it would work for real?

Wong Kiew Kit has some interesting ideas, that I believe aren't particularly realistic or traditional. I had one of his books, in which he came out and said the techniques in the book wer fabricated for the book. So while it may be that he keeps his real, effective kung fu a secret, I am also not impressed by the idea of selling fake martial arts for a buck, and that goes for any style.

Wong Kiew Kit's assertion is that with enough mastery of the traditional arts, it can best MT and kickboxing:

I'm into traditionl Chinese martial arts (TCMA) myself, but also not tolerant of the 99% bullshido rate in TCMA. The fact is with the "old way", both in China and Japan, if you were the local tough guy because you won the latest fighting or strong man contest, that you were the guy that taught martial arts in your village. You taught your techniques, that hundreds of years later people who never won a NHB fight try to emulate, and that is just messed up.

The video has no "real fighting." It's not even sport fighting. It's cooperative play fighting.

Stupidest "fight demo" I've ever seen. Just plain old stage choreography. The only thing this demonstrates to me that there are still idiots out there that think movie fighting is real. I've seen better ninjeritsu.

Shmuel; It seems that the fact you asked if this would be effective means that maybe you aren't yet familiar with the concept of aliveness. Am I right? That's OK because once you understand this idea, you can asses any demo for yourself to see if what you are looking at would hold up under pressure, or is just choreography and stage-play.
