Relatives Believe More Than One Assailant Involved

BOSTON -- Family members say a murder victim found in Boston's North End Thursday morning was a family man and a military veteran.

Gail Huff Reports On Murder Victim's Identity

Israel Vega's body was found on Salem Street early Thursday, apparently killed with a large rock. Now investigators are turning to the public, to help them find a killer. NewsCenter 5's Gail Huff reported that detectives are also still trying to determine a motive as the man's wallet was not taken, eliminating robbery as a reason for the murder. Vega, 51, was a local resident and the father of three children. One of his daughters, Gloria Vega, 17, said her father was a devoted parent. "[He] was always taking care of us. We were first in everything. Everything, we're first -- everything," she said, sobbing. She said her father was beaten beyond recognition and she believes there was more than one assailant.

"He knew how to defend himself. He's a veteran. He's always teaching us about street smarts. You know? He's a strong guy. He's into martial arts, he knows how to do all that. He knows how to defend himself," she said.

But Thursday about 4:20 a.m., Vega's bludgeoned body was found on a street corner by a TV news reporter walking to work. An 8 lb. rock was found next to the body, and police said it may have been the murder weapon. Friends and relatives of the victim say he was a former Marine who recently underwent surgery on a leg that was injured during his days in the military. The native of Puerto Rico was recently divorced and lived alone in a North End apartment complex for elderly and disabled residents. Neighborhood residents couldn't believe someone was murdered in what they consider a normally safe area. "It just gets to you, you know? The taking of a human life," said Joanne Darling, who described her neighbor as an ordinary, nice guy.

An absolutely tragedy. Nobody is INVINCIBLE and he was an old outnumbered and unarmed man who fought for the free world.

And as I have stated in my apology, get some therapy KFSS. Here you are going about how important it is to defend America and a you gloat over the death of a war hero :f-off:
