breaking your nose when sparring?
I have a question for you guys that spar hard in muay thai or boxing: do you break your nose often when sparring? I have a somewhat large english sort of nose and it seems like the first good punch I take, my nose is just going to break, but I've never sparred hard in any striking art so I could be wrong.

ive had it broken once by a particularly nasty uppercut but it definitely should not be a regular occurence if you have decent headgear and arent training with assholes.

I find i rarely get hit solidly in the nose when sparring, but it has happend. Its all about anticipating the punches that are coming and going with the punches. With lateral head movement you can often "deflect" the punch off your face and not receive it "straight down the pipe" which might connect to your nose.

GtBE, did you spend a lot of time editing that? Or else: what do you smoke?
As to Matt Foley: do you plan to start training in any striking art? If yes, learn how to strike, how to defend strikes and don't spend too much time thinking about your English nose. It might or might not break during hard sparring. The more you concentrate on it, the more likely it is to happen...

Never broken, only bloodied a bit.
But i have a cute lil button nose so people probably try not to hit it.You can't make people smarter. You can expose them to information, but your responsibility stops there.

Every time my nose has been broken, it was during sparring. Not in a real fight.

Just bloodied, but we don't do standup very much. My nose will start to bleed with the lightest strike.
I did take someone's head to the upper bridge of my nose quite hard a few years ago. There wasn't much swelling and bruising so I don't think it was broken--it did look a bit crooked ever since though. I have one of those long pointy anglo-saxon schozzes, so I think mine might break a little easier.
