Just curious what do you guys think about hitting first in a fight.
The plus with hitting first would be surprise and the fact there guard is not up.
The bad part is they can sue you for assaulting them even if they where just about to attack you.
What do you guys think????

I've been taught that alot of fights follow a similar pattern that goes something like this (bar being jumped , ambushed etc.) - eye contact , verbal ie. "what are you lookin at?" , second verbal , then threat ie "I'm gonna smash you" , gap is bridged , then strike . Obviously there is a number of things that fit in between and the whole thing can take seconds or minutes . But in my country once that threat is made and the gap is bridged (not 100% cause fuked if it is and you haven't done anything) the assault has started and you can hit first to protect yourself . Rule of thumb though the person who hits first and hits hardest usually wins .

Hitting first is fun. They go down you laugh you're ass off, then you run before they remember what you look like and they call the police.
I hit first only if they intend on hitting me first. No, that's not as stupid as it sounds. Three times that I can remember, I have had some guy reel back to hit me so I quick punch them in the face. Then all his whining bitchy friends claim I started the fight because I managed to hit first. Fuckem, I still didn't get arrested because I had the sober witnesses.

Hit 1st & hit hard.
The alterantive is NOT an option!
Just ask yourself -Do you think your opponent would show you mercy?
As for the legality of it all(speaking from personal experience here), If you feel you are being threatened & the only option is to fight, then the law will "usually" be on your side, provided that you shut your mouth about your MA training.
The law does not like martial artists!
Anyway..It's called provocation. Unless of course it was your stupid arse that started the altercation in the 1st place.
Anyway...would you wait for someone with a gun/knife to attack 1st...I think not!!
Personally...the last thing on my mind is the law, it's survival that takes precedent.
Worry about the consequences once your safe I say!
I won my last fight by 3 fences & 2 backyards !!

I always preempt. That's why I shoot everyone I see.

Pre-emptive striking is fucking stupid. If some guy comes up to you and makes it clear he's about to attack you, you're defending yourself if you hit him first, not pre-emtively striking.
If a guy comes up to you and says he assfucked your mother in hell, is gonna do the same to you and you break his nose, that's kicking ass, not pre-emtively striking. Give it the respect it deserves!

It's not important who hits first.
All that counts is who hits LAST.

Simple answer to this. Don't put yourself in a situation that warrants hitting first.
Most altercations can be ended by an apology. Only those truly Hell bent on trouble will go past that.
I've learned to be the polite one. Even when people are being friendly and give you that punch in the shoulder, it's usually pretty hard. The pick on the big guy syndrome. Alot of people have it, especially when alcohol is involved.
