    Hell yeah! Hell no!

Are armbars on the ground purely a Japanese technique?

I have been researching the history and theory of MA for six years and have been unable to resolve the question of whether armbars on the ground are a purely Japanese technique.

    Yea or nay?
    What am I?:

I am ignorant, thieving, lying, hypocrital, violent and thoroughly self obssessed. I steal from others to make myself look better, only to make the item or information worse.

I go on and on and ON about how brave and strong and brilliant and wealthy I am, but in the end I'm all mouth and no trousers.

That's right children, I'm your average AMERICUNT! and I exemplify AMERICA!:911flag:

Yes, through persistent lack of work and the cultivation of ignorance, he is a true American.

I doubt it. 'Pull his arm over a fulcrum until his elbow dislocates' is something I'd expect more than one culture to think of.

Someone on here had a picture from a vase of a roman gladiator applying an armbar, IIRC, as their avatar for quite a while.

On what grounds? I was unable to find examples of armbars outside of BJJ and Japanese arts (I didn't include BJJ cos it's Japanese derived)
