    Does anyone Detox?

    Hey Guys,

I'm new around here, been practicing martial arts on and off for about 3 years. I have a general nutrition question about detoxing. Is it worth it? I have friends that swear by it, some do it every couple of months, others once a week. Anybody know if its worth it? I know it probably has little to do with martial arts performance, but I'm asking more for general health purposes. Does detox have its merits or is it new age herbal therapy crap?

It's new age therapy crap for people who feel guilty about drinking and smoking too much. Might do some good, but it's no substitute for an all-round healthy lifestyle.

well, I'm not talking about fighting off an addiction, more like detoxing one's body of all the chemicals the food industry like to cram into their products. Then again, I suppose I could just eat more fiber and uh, berries (antioxidants, right?)

I detox all the fucking time - 24/7. See... I have kidneys (2!) and a liver. You should try and get them. I heard you can get them pretty cheap in china.

    Quit eating that ****. Seriously.
You can't make people smarter. You can expose them to information, but your responsibility stops there.

Detoxing is a load of ****. Your body doesn't have "toxins" (I fucking love how they use that word) floating around in it all the time that it can't take care of itself. You're probably hurting yourself by detoxing actually since you're probably either:

    1) Drinking a diuretic, which will drain you of electrolytes and potentially vitamins and minerals that you need.

    or

    2) Enemas. In which case you're voluntarily sticking something up your own rectum.

Instead of worrying about normalizing your body and centering your soul; eat healthy, and exercise.

(don't get my started on free radicals...)

Just give away your pringles, doritos, and ho-hos. Those are the only things the body needs to detox from.

edit: I changed my mind. Ho-hos are way too good to give up. Forget your body.

Just doubleing your daily water intake will "detox" you. Stop eating processed foods would be a major step in the right direction. Try this and good luck with it, lay off the high fructose corn syrup. Studies show it's as addictive physically as nicotine and caffine. That shits in everything. The only way I'd go for an enema is if I was seriously backed up and laxatives didn't help. Still the idea of violating my man space and farting mineral oil for a weeks just doesn't sound like alot of fun.
