Maybe someone should come up with a division that has no sides at all, with a raised outside edge, and allows the audience to see all the fight without anything getting in the way.

Then creat some rules that encourage a fast pace and lots of hitting.

Why doesnt someone suggest something like that to someone with influence in the MA world? we could get someone like Chuck Norris involved and make a killing.

I have always wished for a elevated ring with four or more sides with each side featuring either:

- 5 rope boxing ring, so it is harder for people to fall through
- ye olde cage
- open platform, like san shou competitions with a rainbow coloured ball pitt to fall in
- barbed wire with little fire crackers like Mexican wrestling

Couldn't it just be made of the kind of impact glass they have at hockey games, only stronger?

Easy for the fans and cameras to see and a solid barrier that doesn't entangle/allow gripping.

For MMA i like the cage functionality wise and asthetically.

I think the impact glass would probably get smeared with sweat and oil and be hard to see through in short order, plus it has no give to it if you fall into it. Cages have some give to them. Also I get to tell people I'm a "cage fighter" even though only one of my fights has been in a cage.

Either that or we could adopt the Thunderdome, and put the audience on the cage.....

I didn't consider the problems of sweat/oil/blood, but it could be cleaned during round breaks. It would depend on whether or not a pair of fighters could make it completely opaque during a five minute round.

The impact glass is an interesting idea. I would be concerned that it could get smeared during the fight, but surely there is some way of getting around that (the aforementioned inter-round cleaning). The real deciding factor is just how smaread the glass will get from sweat/blood in a short time.

There's also the issue of a cage being (probably) cheaper, having the give that Kat mentioned, not needing any maintenance (AFAIK), and sounding much cooler.
