I don't like BJJ, there I said it and I feel so much better

I have been considering starting a thread about this for some time but just wasn't sure how I should start it. But seeing as I am now polishing off my 3rd bottle of Smithwicks while I wait for my wife to get off work, I am just going to go for it.

I don't like BJJ. Presently I train BJJ about once a week and have trained it with varying degrees of committment off and on for about 3 years (which is why I am still a lowly white belt). I just don't like it! I can't explain why, it's just not my cup of tea. I prefer staying on my feet, that's it.

Now before everyone goes crazy and all the nutriders start dry humping me into submission, let me make sure I am being very clear. I train BJJ once a week and have trained it off and on over the years because I fully recognize and acknowledge its value and it's effectiveness. To not have any training in BJJ (or another top notch grappling system) would just be foolish. I just cannot get excited about rolling around on the ground.

I don't feel this way about all grappling, I studied Yudo (Judo) for a fair amount of time while overseas and really enjoyed it, but again we start on our feet and the main goal was to throw the opponent while you stayed on your feet (or at least kept the dominant position)

So now that I have had my say, are there any other like minded bullies out there? Or am I going to be the lone bully to don his flame suit and prepare for his torching. :violent5:

As with all of the "lava" and "broken glass" jokes, does anyone, being rolled around in lava embedded with broken glass want to try to "discover" grappling or at least have a clue?

I've had the opposite experience. Sub Wrestling is like delicious crack, but every time I take a few classes I break another body part. It's like grappling's immune system is rejecting me.

That is quite blasphemous talk you put out there in the open:biblethum . No really, no one says that you have to like it. Just as long as appreciate that it holds a great deal of value in fighting. And yes I'm am very biased toward BJJ, which I think is very much one of the greatest things on this planet.

Actually I would have started flaming you if you had started saying something dumb like how d34dly wing chun is. But hey, if you just don't like to grapple, then don't sweat it. That's why there will always be strikers and grapplers.

I don't see the problem here. To be honest I only like BJJ when I'm doing well in sparring or at least holding my own. I get owned enough not to like getting beaten and drilling isn't really fun itself. I attribute this to my suckage though. If I were better I'd be doing better and having more fun.
