Dude, you are 20! How much younger could you be before the "Hovis" music starts playing?

The last TKD tournament I fought in I basically did the same thing your attempting to do. I had trained kickboxing so much at that point that I had difficulty switching to a TKD ruleset.
My fight basically went, spinning back to the guys ribs, successfully closing the gap followed by repeated punches to his body, he would step back and I would round kick him, close the gap again and throw punches to the body.
This formula was repeated throughout the round with him slipping in clean kicks to the body on me. At one point I stepped in to throw a back kick anticipating him backing up, instead he tried to throw a wheel kick. Result: I had already closed the distance, since he didn't back up I ended up bulldozing him and knocking him on his ass.
I lost the fight, had it been more of a Kyokushin format I would have won, but it was Olympic TKD so punches don't mean ****, even if your opponent walks away battered and bruised, you still lose. -

Quoted for truth. Also, because of that stupid impenetrable armor, there were people that I were hitting straight into the ribs the way I would hit someone during Kickboxing training that will TKO them with a livershot type of thing, that didn't even feel it.
When I've sparred TKDers in armor under TKD rules, I adjusted my kicking game to include more push-type kicks. I figured, if I'm not allowed to punch effectively and can't drop them with a hard kick, I might as well send them flying. The high center of gravity that makes them vulnerable to takedowns also makes them vulnerable to being push-kicked across the room and sometimes onto their asses, even if they outweigh me by 50+ lbs.
Good for comedy value, if nothing else. -

Not true. They do, in fact, work. In the heat of the moment, you can't plan them out well enough to make them work. They work, some people are very good at using them, most people can't.

Anyway Sirc, do you usually need to have some sort of registered rank in WTF TKD to compete, or can you just show up and register to fight most of the time? I'd love to try it out, it would give me a pretext to regain my flexibility.
Also, I fractured my friend's ribs once through a hogu with a hook (to be objective, he was standing still at the time, and I got to wind up pretty good) but the ones in the video here look more invincible than the one my friend had on... -
