ab conditioning and situps question
i understand there must be a right way and a wrong way to do situps. or so i've heard in a couple of places. the point is, i want to condition my abs a bit and get rid of that unsightly lower belly thing that hangs around in front of my manly 6pack...
so anyways, i was doing about 100-200 situps a day, not much, but better than nothing. then i started getting some nasty lower back pains. i suffer from a messed up case of scoliosis, so i visited my chiropractor. i had a fight in about a week and a bit after that, so he told me to suspend the sit ups and just rest up, train as normal and get back to him after my match. i haven't... hehehe
in any case, i will, just haven't had time, but what are your takes on the situation? i haven't done many sit ups in close succession since, but i've found backups seem to even things out a bit. however, doing a backup for every situp when you're doing more than 50 situps is a bit blah.
any other ab excercises you would recommend? i have no access to equipment, so it's basically all stuff i can do at home.
Sit ups will not remove your gut so you can forget that for starters. You need to get your diet under control and do some more cardio for that.
Sit ups generally use the upper abdominals so it's always good to balance them out with some lower abdominal and core exercises like the plank (http://www.abs-exercise-advice.com/plank.html), the reverse curl (http://www.abs-exercise-advice.com/l...exercises.html)
and the favourite, Captain's chair...
Don't forget to work your gluts and lower back as well.
Most of the advice given here is for healthy people or from people who have been there, done that for a particular health condition. But in general, if you've got a predisposing injury or condition, your doc is the best person to talk to.

And with no slur on the chiropractic profession, but an MD with a specialty in sports medicine (physician, orthopedist, etc.) is probably a better person to consult with, if you can.
Working your abs will condition them, but will not make you lose weight.

Getting rid of your belly, assuming it's not there by genetic circumstance (as in, that's where your body stores most fat instead of elsewhere), you'll see your best results by doing less situps and more overall strenuous exercise.
You can consult with your doctor about doing exercises like "Supermans," "Good Morning" lifts without weight, and the like. Or you can talk to a physical trainer about the matter.
Guys, I know I'm not the most "friendly" of posters, but this type of nonsense really isn't funny at all. Then again, if you see Pl4zm4 as a forum role model, there may be no hope for you anyhow.

Not only are high-rep abdominal workouts not helping you reach your goal, they're probably a very bad idea for someone with scoliosis. If you want to post the specifics of where and how deeply your back is affected, I can make some recommendations in terms of particular exercises to do.
