Possesion is 9/10ths of the law.

The car is on my property, I have posession of the keys and the vehicle; ergo...my car.
And lo, Kano looked down upon the field and saw the multitudes. Amongst them were the disciples of Uesheba who were greatly vexed at his sayings. And Kano spake: "Do not be concerned with the mote in thy neighbor's eye, when verily thou hast a massive stick in thine ass".

Probably because te car is on private property? I'm sure if the car was parked at a mall or something you could take it without getting shot. So rather than repo at the house like in NY, they would likely go to the house, follow them somewhere and then take the car.

Hell all we had to carry was maglites, and never had to use them.

Scrapper: its probably not about who owns the car, but who owns the property. Anna: can you shoot someone in Texas if they refuse to leave your property? Probably as in NY my criminal justice teacher had said the best place to kill someone was in your home. You are king on your property or something.

Do the same rules apply if you're a tenant? Say it's your landlord who's trying to bust your door in, carrying a baseball bat. If you shoot him, who's in the wrong?

If he's carrying a baseball bat and crackin down your door then I could see easily pulling off a self-defense case.

No need to preach. Gun ownership isn't a freedom most people miss over here, we do without just fine. You do things your way, we'll do them our way.

Apply that logic to the ownership of Japanese swords... Not the cheapo shite but genuine Nihonto owned and used by those who own and use them responsibly. The government of this piss-ant cuntry [< intentional spelling] is attempting to take my rights away from me because of a very small percentage of crimes using a "sword".. The type of wall-hanging sword which any twat can buy for 60 down the local market.

So, instead of tacking the problem in proportion to the actual need, the politicians see mileage for their careers in banning all swords.

Yeah, that's dumb. Take that kind of logic to its conclusion and all drinks would be sold in soft plastic, and all tradesmen would go out of business due to hammers, chisels, saws and drills being illegal.
Guns, though, we can manage without.

Yeah, you guys were talking about banning pointy kitchen knives a while back if memory serves.

I'm just saying, when the next European war breaks out and, thanks now to the Chunnel, your island actually has to deal with a land war, your umbrellas and tea saucers aren't going to help out very much.

In all seriousness, I wonder if you guys would have the same gun laws had German troops actually landed on English soil in the 40's. I'll bet you wouldn't have as many problems with chavs if 1 out of ever 10 people they accosted had a legally concealed firearm.
