that was kaoklai and imo he won that fight. of course it never looks good when a thai beats a korean "hero" in korea especially when the thai is about a third his size so they gave it to hong man "growth hormones" choi.

It makes me laugh when I read people saying that "it's the true muay thai" or "he truely has t3h real muay thai" when talking about Kaoklai, when a big part of his succes against big people is from his head movements and bobbing/weaving skills, wich *tilt* you learn in western boxing!

um yeah because before thais discovered western boxing they used to just stand stiff as a board and take shots to the face all day long... oh wait i lie, there have been fighters like kaoklai and anuwat around for fucking ages. slipping and dodging kicks has been around in muay thai for as long as people have been hitting each other in the face.

The reason he can get away with it so much against these big guys is because they are damn slow in comparison. watch his fight against ray sefo- Sefo used to fight at a much lighter weight so he knew how to handle kaoklais speed. Id say he has "the real muay thai" because of his badass kicks which he uses to KO guys way the **** bigger than him and the fact that he can throw bigger guys around in the clinch like ragdolls (i.e. musashi)

The way he trains in dodging shits and his head movement? Sorry but no that's something you learn in western boxing, not in MT (altough now we do since MT took some things from western boxing too). And most of the thais I've seen in fights and videos weren't trying to dodge hits but instead "turtle up" (putting both of your arms on your head if you know what I mean) and enduring the shots.

Also, I might be wrong, but since Buakaw began training more his hands and western boxing, he also improved a freaking lot hif dodging skills/head movements whatsoever. I don't know much about him though so I'm not sure.

And the way he moves his body torso too (I'm not sure but isn't that what we call bobbing and weaving?). Note that I'm strictly talking about ways to dodge punches (logical since I'm talking about western boxing here).

Boxers obviously have head movement down to a fine science and are the best at it, but it's pretty silly to think that in a sport where they have punches and kicks flying at your face constantly they never figured out how to evade.

Im sorry I didnt realise western boxing had a monopoly on moving your head when you fight. wasnt aware that having some guy throw ping pong balls at you while you slip without using your legs like you would in boxing was a boxing trademarked technique either.

he breaks at the waist plenty, like western boxing, but i dont think its accurate to say that there was no head movement in thai before they saw western boxing; as alex says above, as long as people are hitting each other in the face, they're also going to be looking at ways of moving their face out the way. that said, thai boxers are a lot happier than western boxers to shell up and soak the blows; just a different mentality imo
