that was boring as hell, should have chosen someone a bit more lively to do the demo with. guy with hair was a fucking yawnfest apart from the sweep.

You guys were looking downstairs too much and leaning over too far when you were throwing those knees, if either of you were looking for it you could have kneed the other guy in the head.

Other than that it's hard to tell, Dana White was in the way the whole time.

You both weren't bad. Maybe a bit too mechanical. Maybe it was stage fright I guess. You both need to learn to relax.

Also, whoever was letting himself get kneed in the stomach needs to learn to stop it immediately and not just block them. On that the same guy was letting his neck get pulled down. That’s a real no-no. You can still wind-up getting kneed in the face.

Good sweep. But keep you guards up even while punching.

    Hey, two questions:

    1. Does Kyokushin focus stylistically on:

    a. takedowns?
    b. engagement so close?

    2. If you're looking at improving sparring/competition opportunities... is scoring only for takedowns and expulsions going to yield the match to the better KK exponent, or encourage a game much different than the style intends?

For the record, I practice, Shorin Ryu (4 1/2 years), Kyokushin Budokai (3 Months) and Bjj (3 Weeks). As far as the criticisms are concerned, you're right it wasn't great. We were too concerned with making sure there was a reasonable level of contact while not trying to put people who might be interested off straight away. If the slimmest of chances it takes of, it will be a very slow process before you see quality knockdown style matches.

if you ever get the opportunity to stage another demo, i'd set up a fight that wasn't between you and your brother. you and someone else from your school, maybe, someone that you trust but don't mind going a little harder w/. looks like more fun than point sparring, regardless though. which of the fighters was you, out of curiosity?

Why can't the KK guys go without a clinch limit?? For excitement sake? You might get some awesome gi throws ( like in judo ) that can really wow the audience, by getting rid of clinch limits, right? Plus it makes it more realistic.

Clinching usually equals snore fest. If you can't execute a throw within 5 seconds, you probably aren't going to get it anyway. This might stop from trying to combo throws but were not talking about a judo tourney

I watched your fight and liked it a lot. Of course you know what I think of people who think tag is a better display of skill. Combinations, power and toughness are important parts of fighting skill as well as speed and pranciness, so knockdown and full contact are of course desirable.
