Input on this Dojo...

Hi all,

Was wondering if anyone has heard or know of these instructors or input if this is a McDojo, bullshido or however you put it here. link is http://bethesdamartialarts.com/, I am currently enrolled, for now to learn self defense and get some exercise (which I'm definitely getting exercise), and would prefer some feedback.

Signs of McDojo

2. "Black Belt candidates must break boards with hand and foot techniques at their Graduation ceremonies" Not that there is anything wrong with that, but no mention of actual sparring.

I don't know anything about the school other than what is on the site. The instructors have competed and done well in Full Contact Karate, which sounds like a good thing. I don't know what the ruleset for FCK is though.

Bottom line: if they don't spar, they suck.

sparring there in full contact for no points and stop, reset and go again, they just keep sparring as it was explained to me, as if I were in a situation were I needed to defend myself.

Well what dictates the end of one 'round?' Knockdown? First big hit? Submission? etc.

no sure, not high enough to compete yet, have to have 3 stripes on the white belt to compete...I think they let it go for a few minutes let the people spar then stop it eventually..I know thats no help sorry, but they from what I heard don't go to state tournaments and the such, it's inter-dojo sparring.

It might do you some good to check out which org's they actually fought in to see if their actual fight records are verifiable.

says to practice to music for musical forms?!?!? Whatever.

If you have received your 4th stripe, you will receive your new belt at the graduation ceremony -- no matter how many mistakes you make. You will already have been tested to ensure that you are ready to move on; the ceremony is to show your family and friends how much you have accomplished!

in otherwords, you suck, but we'll give you a new belt anyway... BULLSHIDO!!!
